Hot Shop & Annex Coordinator

Join our vibrant team as the Hot Shop & Annex Coordinator! Together with a Hot Shop & Annex Assistant and a Campus Assistant, you'll keep our two hot glass studios organized, maintained, and buzzing with creativity each session. Active hours typically run from 6 AM to midnight, with schedules flexibly staggered to cover all needs. The main Hot Shop is shared with talented Gaffers crafting unique pieces for our Artists in Residence and Instructors, while the Annex requires seamless communication and coordination for scheduling. Plus, you’ll host exciting campus events, including the session art exchange, right in the heart of the Hot Glass Studios!

Recommended Experience:

• Extensive knowledge of hot shop techniques (blowing, sculpting, casting, etc.)
• Familiarity with hot shop equipment and tools (gas & electric furnace, garage, torches, etc.)
• Previous experience in monitoring a busy studio in an educational or public access setting

General Outline of Tasks:

• Oversee the technical operations of the Hot Shop and Annex
• Coordinate daily tasks for the Hot Shop & Annex Crew, providing training and support as needed
• Prepare materials, tools, and equipment according to class supply lists and daily needs
• Conduct safety orientations on equipment and materials for program participants
• Ensure safe use of the Hot Shop & Annex in collaboration with staff, Instructors, and TAs
• Communicate any equipment issues to the Studios Manager and Seasonal Technician and assist with troubleshooting
• Foster a calm and positive atmosphere among participants sharing the Hot Shop & Annex
• Host the end-of-session art exchange and other campus Hot Shop activities
• Implement daily clean-ups and organize a big clean-up at the end of each session
• Maintain a logbook of equipment conditions, gas metering, and supply use
• Prepare the Hot Shop & Annex for spring tours, visiting artists, and special events
• Complete assigned projects by the end of each session
• Attend weekly staff meetings and program meetings

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 55 lbs repeatedly
• Capacity to stand for extended periods

Compensation:

• A minimum commitment of two sessions is required for the Hot Shop & Annex Coordinator position
• Work up to 40 hours per week at a rate of $22 per hour
• Room and board provided while on campus
