Night Monitor

The Night Monitor oversees campus activity overnight from 11:00 PM to 5:30 AM. With our campus buzzing 24/7, some participants remain active until 2 AM, while others start their morning routines as early as 5 AM. This role requires familiarity with studio equipment to ensure the safe shutdown of studios, maintain cleanliness while participants rest, and promote responsible decision-making. It is open to individuals of all experience levels in glass who are responsible problem solvers and night owls.

Recommended Experience:

• Experience in monitoring studio equipment and charging furnaces
• Basic First Aid/CPR training
• Ability to work unsupervised with excellent problem-solving skills
• A valid, unrestricted driver’s license with a good driving record

General Outline of Tasks:

• Oversee activity on campus during the night, contacting year-round staff as needed
• Carry the campus mobile phone after hours to respond to requests via text or call
• Check on all studios after classes conclude to ensure proper shutdown procedures
• Monitor annealers and kilns throughout the night
• Charge the furnaces in the Hot Shop and Annex
• Handle any projects requiring overnight attention as requested by the Studios Manager or Seasonal Technician
• Turn off lights and other unused equipment/spaces around campus
• Provide transportation to any program participant needing a ride to the hospital and call 911 for urgent or emergency needs
• Launder kitchen towels as requested by the Kitchen Coordinator
• Prepare coffee in the early morning and stock the coffee bar and snack area
• Wash overnight dishes and clean the lodge
• Drop off late-night or early-morning participants at the shuttle drop-off location
• Start up the Hot Shop for the morning class when on duty
• When possible, attend weekly staff meetings
• Complete a Daily Pass Down Log and checklist, reporting overnight furnace temperatures and other significant events of the evening

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift up to 55 lbs repeatedly
• Must be able to stand for long periods

Compensation:

• The Night Monitor position requires a half-season commitment, though full-season availability is preferred
• May work up to but not more than 40 hours per week at $20 per hour
• Room and board while on campus
