Studio Building Coordinator

The Studio Building is a bustling hub featuring classroom space, a mold-making studio, and a kiln room, utilized throughout the day and into the night for workspace, storage, class meetings, sketching, and critiques. As the Studio Building Coordinator, you’ll monitor the studio from 10 AM to 9 PM, with breaks for meals, artist talks, and events. You’ll provide essential support for supplies, answer questions, and oversee the safe use of equipment and tools. All kiln usage is scheduled in advance with you.

Recommended Experience:

• Extensive knowledge of warm glass techniques (fusing, casting, slumping, mold making, etc.)
• Experience in glass painting, decals, PLA melt-out, and other experimental processes
• Proficient in using studio equipment, tools, and supplies (kilns, wax pots, steamers, mold materials, etc.)
• Familiarity with programming schedules and kilns using GB-4, Sentry 2.0, and other controllers
• Experience monitoring a studio with multiple projects and competing priorities

General Outline of Tasks:

• Schedule studio resources and equipment usage
• Coordinate kiln usage and approve firing schedules
• Manage the technical operations of the Studio Building, Mold Room, and Kiln Shop
• Provide safety orientations for proper equipment and material use
• Prepare necessary materials and tools based on class supply lists
• Complete inventory lists at the beginning and end of each session
• Assist instructors and TAs with studio projects
• Ensure safe use of equipment and tools
• Inform the Studios Manager and Seasonal Technician of any issues and assist with troubleshooting and repairs
• Facilitate communication among instructors and other participants
• Organize daily clean-ups and end-of-session tidy-ups
• Prepare studios for walkthroughs, spring tours, and special events
• Complete assigned projects by the end of each session
• Attend scheduled weekly staff and program meetings

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to frequently climb stairs during shifts
• Must be able to occasionally lift 50 lbs

Compensation:

• A minimum commitment of two sessions is required for the Studio Building Coordinator position
• Work up to 40 hours per week at a rate of $22 per hour
• Room and board provided while on campus
