Woods & Metals Coordinator

Step into the Wood and Metal Studio, a collaborative space where all campus participants bring their creative visions to life. As the Wood and Metals Coordinator, you'll oversee the studio from 9 AM to 6 PM, with breaks for meals, artist talks, and events. During busy class demos, instructors and TAs will assist in monitoring the studio. You'll provide expert advice on projects, offer basic equipment instruction, schedule class demonstrations, and collaborate with the Studios Manager and Seasonal Technician on campus initiatives.

Recommended Experience:

• Extensive knowledge of woodworking techniques and equipment (Jointer, Table Saw, Lathe, etc.)
• Proficient in metalworking techniques and equipment (MIG, TIG, Plasma Cutter, etc.)
• Experience in a studio environment with varying skill levels and multiple concurrent projects

General Outline of Tasks:

• Oversee the technical operation of the Wood and Metal Studio
• Conduct safety orientations on the proper use of equipment and materials for all participants
• Prepare necessary supplies for classes and assist with class projects as needed
• Supervise the safe use of studio resources
• Offer guidance and support to campus participants on project plans
• Collaborate on campus and studio improvement projects
• Report equipment issues to the Studios Manager and Seasonal Technician, assisting with troubleshooting and repairs
• Prepare the studio for walkthroughs and special events
• Facilitate communication among participants utilizing the shop
• Organize daily clean-ups and end-of-session tidying
• Attend scheduled weekly staff meetings and program meetings

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to climb stairs multiple times during shifts
• Capability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs

Compensation:

• Commitment of a minimum of two sessions required
• Work up to 40 hours per week at a rate of $22 per hour
• Room and board provided while on campus
