In Loving Memory: Benjamin Moore
On the morning of August 21, the close friends and family of Benjamin "Benny" Moore gathered at Pilchuck's Stanwood campus. They came to remember and celebrate a man who left a truly lasting impact on our school and our community. Benny was an artist, mentor, community builder, business owner, visionary, and friend to so many. He arrived as a student at Pilchuck in 1974 and went on to serve as a faculty member, Educational Coordinator, Interim Executive Director, and a member of the Board of Trustees for over thirty years. The mark he made on us all runs deep, and we remember him with respect, joy, and gratitude.
As one of Benny's close friends and colleagues wrote:
Pilchuck may have been the result of Dale Chihuly's vision and John & Annie Hauberg's financial backing, but it would have foundered without Benny Moore's hard work in the trenches and his artistic policies as he put in place the framework and teaching methods that made the Pilchuck process unique in the world of glass art at the time. He created the template still used so successfully today, and his hard work in recruiting some of the world's greatest artists, from the best traditions, were directly responsible for what the school became. Long live Benny Moore!!! Unique and charismatic, whose memory will live forever among all of us who knew and loved him.
Thank you, dear Benny. Sending love to you, your wife and family, and everyone whose life was even a little richer and brighter because you were in it.
